Wasted Youth

I've been sitting here at work for 2.5 hours already and it feels like it should be 3 or 4 in the afternoon. There is absolutely nothing to be done here. Yesterday I wasted so much time because of the torrential down pour that came through town right when I needed to leave, so needless to say I wasn't able to drive to Olathe and further instill some respect in my kids. Apparently my co-teacher wasn't able to go either so there was absolutely no one there who is stern enough to take charge because they are some very unruley children. Not going to work led to bumming around the apartment all afternoon and evening. When and picked up some chinese food for dinner which was amazing. Ate only half of it so now I have something for dinner tonight! Well that's all for now, not really sure why the Meatloaf song popped into my head when I wrote the title of this entry.

Epiphany ....

Now that I've graduated from school and am part of the "real world", I can completely understand where some of my older friends were coming from when they too graduated. I now have a social circle of one. That at times is a very scary thing to come to realize since I've always had people to hang out with or things to do. With so much time on my hands I don't know how to manage it. Living a life of deadlines and meeting others' expectations for so long now it's just me. It's not too bad during the week because since I work in the evenings in Olathe I can kill time with my parents so as to prevent me simply sitting in the apartment trying to find ways to pass the time. What is going to be really hard is the weekends. I now have 48 hours every weekend that allows me to do whatever I want and I just can't seem to be doing anything outside the apartment. Most of my friends have their plans of what to do, so calling them up is not going to happen because then I'll just feel like "the old guy" hanging out because he has nothing to do and no one to do it with. I would see those people all the time and I would think not too highly of them and of course the world has it's way of working out ... that is now who I'm fighting to keep at bay. I'm feeling desperate to find something to do with my time but I need to do it by myself to not become those people I looked down on.

Tonight I ended up spending my time writing up lesson plans for the entire 7-8 weeks worth of classes so now I don't have to worry about that nor will I have to spend any more time planning so I have even more time of nothingness to fill. Then watched, Lord of WarBoiler Room, My Super Ex-Girlfriend (I know, I know ... was desperate for anything by then), and playing video games. Now because everyone's having a lot of fun at the bar across the alley I can't even force myself to sleep to end the boredom that I'm now typing this. Well, I think this is going to be a very long 9 months ...

Okay, so it's been over four months since I've written in this thing ... so we'll bring things to the present, fast-forward style.

Graduated in May with a BA in Biology, still need to finish Latin American Studies and Spanish.

Finished up my active years in Tau Beta Sigma, ending with a wonderful senior ceremony.

Found an apartment in two weeks before getting kicked out of my other one.

Worked my LAST midwestern music camp, it was fun, but way too stressful.

Got to spend a week in Orlando with Mandy for TBS/KKY national convention. That was an amazing trip and was able to see a lot of my midwest friends along with others across the whole nation. Also that trip I was able to go to SEA WORLD!!! Now mind you, Sea World to me is like Disneyland/World is for most kids. I even got to rub a dolphin and play catch with him.

Spent time job searching, but not successful until Sharon in the Music & Dance office turned her two week notice in and I was asked to fill her position. Then I also interviewed for School Plus in the Olathe School District and I got that job. Now I work from 10-6 and the pay is over $10/hr for both jobs. Unfortunately neither of them are full time so as of now I have zero insurance.

It was decided today that for enrichment class at School Plus I'll be teaching Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I'm really excited about it and can't wait til Monday when I start teaching. For the other hour of work I'll be teaching 2nd graders ... they are the largest group and the most rambunctious so we split the class in half this afternoon, hopefully they'll be more manageable tomorrow.
